Import guide

Vehicle import process

A practical customer guide for sourcing, shipping, clearance and registration in Namibia.

Before purchase

Documents commonly needed for a second-hand vehicle import permit

The exact requirements depend on the transaction and the current rules. Clients should be ready to provide or obtain the documents requested by the relevant authorities.

Invoice or pro-forma invoice with full vehicle details
Vehicle cancellation, registration, deregistration or export certificate
Bill of lading / shipping document
Certified ID, passport or applicable residence documentation
Proof of payment / transfer of funds
Company registration documents for a business importer, where applicable
English translation by an appropriate sworn translator when source documents are not in English
Any additional permit or customs documentation requested for the specific vehicle

After arrival: clearance and registration

Imported used vehicles may require customs/release documents, police and regional clearance, registration documents and other NaTIS requirements before registration. Registration and licensing requirements are administered through the Roads Authority / NaTIS.

Important: My First Car provides a practical buying workflow, but government requirements, fees, duties and forms can change. The final transaction should be checked against current Ministry of Industrialisation and Trade, NamRA, Police and Roads Authority requirements.
